What's in It for You

Professional development
You'll work with and learn from a seasoned team at the Design Center, and also develop deep knowledge of hydraulics, an array of bolting tools and diverse applications. You'll also gain exposure to other hydraulic products, such as pumps, valves, power units, motors, clamps and more. Once you have proven yourself in this role, you might set your sights on a variety of advancement opportunities in SPX Flow.

Impact role
This role has broad responsibilities, from providing technical expertise to moving projects forward to ensuring customer satisfaction. In addition to impacting existing and new products, you will influence the direction of the product line moving forward.

Making a good thing even better
In 2015 SPX Flow launch a global realignment program, involving structural changes and process enhancements to help the company operate more efficiently. We're also focusing on strengthening the diversity of industries we serve, such as promoting new product development within the food & beverage businesses. Q2 2017 results were very positive, with an increase in orders and operating cash flow, and reduction in net debt.

Excellent compensation
In addition to a competitive salary and bonus tied to manufacturing metrics, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental choices with costs shared by the employee and SPX FLOW; an employee-paid vision plan; a retirement savings plan with company match; paid time off; and more. Benefits begin day one.

Total Rewards
At SPX FLOW, what's in it for employees goes well beyond market-competitive compensation and benefits. Our Total Rewards program includes a comprehensive offering that combines a challenging work environment with opportunities for personal development, career growth and recognition. The program gives employees a financial stake in their own success and the ongoing success of the organization, and includes:
  • Opportunities to be recognized and rewarded for hard work and a job well done.
  • A platform to spotlight personal talent and achieve exceptional results.
  • A chance to display the values and leadership practices we, as a company, embrace.
Pictured above: The SlimLine Torque Wrench, from Power Team, is engineered to fit inaccessible applications with minimal clearance. It features dynamic engineering modeling (FEA) optimized tool design to extend life and durability, Rigid steel body construction and multi-swivel technology for free positioning of tool and hoses. Below: Our Hydraulic nut splitter offers a reliable and effective solution to the removal of seized and corroded nuts. It features a triple edge replaceable cutting blade and operates off a standard 10,000 psi (700 bar) pump unit.

Keys to Success

Plenty of design engineers, particularly in larger companies, have siloed experience and expertise in only one or two components. To excel in this role you will need a broader background that encompasses entire products, the systems in which they are integrated, and the ways all the components work together from one application to another. For example, while you will focus on tool design, if a customer reaches out and asks why the accompanying pump is running hot, you should be able to answer.

In addition to technical expertise, you will need strong leadership and interpersonal skills. While you will make hands-on contributions, you also will direct and coordinate among internal and external stakeholders. You should take point on promoting collaboration, and also leverage your influencing skills as necessary. You'll also be responsible for ensuring clear cross-functional communication.

As you can see under The Role, you will have a lot of irons in the fire. You'll need to be highly organized and able to manage and prioritize among multiple projects, activities and deadlines. You will "own" the big picture regarding hydraulic tools, but you'll also need to pay attention to detail.
