The Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will be a leader who can cultivate a culture of collaboration, ownership, action-orientation, execution and discipline.

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree (or other closely related field).

  • International technical experience with codes and regulations (PED, GB, DIN) preferred.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Vice President Engineering, as the Engineering Director, you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of engineers and CAD designers to support the design and manufacture of both gasketed and welded plate heat exchangers. Quick question for you - click here

You’ll lead a talented and experienced team, as you also partner with a variety of key stakeholders both internally and externally. This is a multi-faceted leadership role, and you’ll oversee several key functions: 
  • Site specific activities: The tactical order execution for the Goldsboro location, including engineer support for aftermarket and new equipment orders. Goldsboro represents the design center for the heat exchanger product line, so you’ll also be accountable for R&D, product standardization and more. 
  • Global: Heat Exchanger design authority, continuous improvement, customer interactions, and strategic, long-term projects 
You will be responsible for retaining and attracting top talent, supporting training and development of engineers, and managing the performance of the team.

More specifically, your principle duties and responsibilities will be to: 
  • Manage and drive continual improvement of the Global Heat Exchanger Engineering team. Monitor key performance indicators and establish action plans to maintain or improve performance.
  • Manage the timely and on budget execution of production order projects and product development initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and training of engineers & CAD designers and foster an open learning environment.
  • As Global Design Center Lead, manage R&D projects for new products or improvements to existing products.
  • Develop strong internal and external customer support through technology focus and adopt the latest in new technology and research when applicable.
  • Manage root cause analysis of equipment failures and technical customer issues.
  • Make effective use of capacity planning tools and business forecasts to identify and address current and anticipated gaps in engineering capacity for all projects. Coordinate with high value center engineering resources as appropriate to augment engineering capacity.
  • Continually develop and implement improvements within the team to improve operational performance aligned with corporate objectives and customer requirements. Improve working processes, procedures, and define possible areas for standardization and/or engineering automation.
  • Participate in improvement project activities such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma etc.; to continually improve the operational performance.
  • Develop and implement personal development plans, career profiles, and succession planning for all personnel. Identify training needs and work to make training available to staff.
  • Support HR in new talent acquisition and assessment.
  • Ensure heat exchanger products and components are safe and compliant with appropriate legal requirements (e.g. Machinery Directive, ASME, CRN, GB etc.). Ensure proper due diligence in processes and documentation to support that compliance.
