Field Service Technician
FL - Ocala

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Field Service Technician, you will perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting / assessment, and repair work on equipment at various customer sites and/or an SPX Flow Service Center. You will work both in the shop and out in the field and your efforts will support the entire Lightnin product line including auxiliary equipment used in conjunction with our equipment.
This is a unique role since some of the work is done remotely and over the phone. You will need to be a problem solver, and able to envision what the issue is and help people over the phone. You should have the unique ability to see the problem in your mind and have a great imagination.
You will work with minimal supervision while following routine procedures. The ability to fill out detailed inspection reports is required, and you must be available for travel, overtime, call-ins, etc. as needed (sometimes on short notice) to meet customer requirements.
Advanced communication skills will be necessary to troubleshoot equipment and resolve disputes on site with all levels of Management, Operations and Engineering. Must be capable of upselling and recommending additional parts and services while on site. Minimal supervision required.
- Principle duties performed include disassembly, inspection of components and reassembly of the entire Lightnin product line, including understanding functionality and operational principles of all components including but not limited to Materials of Construction, Design Theory, and Cause and Effect
- Must be able to work on various SPX product lines as well as competitive mixer lines
- Must be able to work with and interpret engineering drawings and parts lists
- Must be proficient in various computer skills and programs including. SAP, Word, Excel, Standard Lightnin Distributions
- Must be capable of creating well thought out, professional equipment evaluations with proper grammar and supporting technical descriptions
- Should understand basic failure modes of equipment including cause and effect, be able to identify them and recommend solutions
- Must be capable of training subordinates in all disciplines of field service and equipment repairs
- Must be capable of managing travel schedules, planning of trips and successful execution while adhering to all SPX travel policies
- Responsible for providing basic hand tools and must maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must be comfortable while working in confined space and at various heights
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Must be proficient with hand tools and precision measuring equipment
- Must maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safe work practices
- Must be able to safely rig and lift equipment
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Must be cable of troubleshooting and failure analysis
- Must be able to disassemble, troubleshoot, reassemble and test all Lightnin mechanical seals
- Must be capable of interacting with management and engineering in problem resolution
- Ability to travel, work overtime including weekends, and alter hours as business needs dictate
- Required travel may be on short notice and for extended periods
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Graduate or AS Degree in Technical Discipline preferred
- At least 5 years of related experience, with strong mechanical aptitude and solid computer skills
- Second Language (Spanish) skills a plus
- Experience with air dryers / compressors and an Industrial/Military background could be a great fit
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
- Regularly required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move objects.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Frequently required to sit and work at a computer.
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Facility conditions are in line with SPX Flow EHS regulations and country legislative safety requirements with regards to safe walkways, shelving and general working areas. Cleanliness is of paramount importance to SPX Flow however from time to time, dust and general packing materials may accumulate. Noise can often be at levels that require hearing protection due to general day-to-day manufacturing activities. All PPE is provided for by the company.
