This position is based in Rockford, Illinois, and relocation assistance is available to highly qualified candidates.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will direct and coordinate production operations, supply chain, manufacturing engineering, quality, environmental health & safety, and continuous improvement at a facility employing about 200 associates. Your mission will be to ensure the production and delivery of quality products on time and in the safest, most efficient and cost-effective manner. Key objectives will include:
- Leading a strong culture that promotes innovation, talent and disciplined practices and processes.
- Developing and maintaining an environment of sustained continuous improvement.
- Ensuring the facility consistently produces improved results while motivating and retaining employees with high-performance standards.
More specifically, your principal duties and responsibilities will be to:
- Plan, manage and direct all manufacturing activities and support services as to achieve optimum production levels, maintaining the highest standards of quality while improving manufacturing costs.
- Direct plant management to assure coordination and integration of workflow, production schedules, budgetary conformance, utilization of personnel, machines and equipment and facilities.
- Direct and coordinate purchasing, monitor inventory levels and shop schedules to achieve current production forecast. Manage materials systems, materials movement, inventory turns and physical inventory accuracy.
- Participate in annual and strategic planning processes.
- Direct the implementation and use of appropriate reporting systems, manufacturing processes and quality programs and processes.
- Investigate new manufacturing techniques.
- Assume responsibility for the implementation and adherence for all company, corporate, local, state and federal safety and environmental policies and regulations.
- Assure that detailed methods and labor standards are in place. Apply cost improvement programs to achieve global cost excellence.
- Ensure that the operation is appropriately staffed with qualified, motivated and properly trained personnel.
- Promote open communications, continuously striving to improve working relations and trust between the employees and the Company.
- Reflect continuous improvement in all manufacturing disciplines and product competitiveness.
- Participate in preparation of annual budgeting, capital planning and operations reports.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strategic planning and analytical skills, along with a demonstrated ability to execute on strategy.
- Leadership skills and the ability to create and manage to a vision for a high-performance, team-based organization.
- An understanding of materials management and the ability to achieve high service levels while reducing inventory and cost.
- The ability to understand supplier capabilities and the marketplace.
- Demonstrated process development and project management skills.
- Knowledge of cost accounting and financial analysis.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and familiarity with MS Office applications.
- A collaborative approach to working with direct reports and leadership.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or another relevant filed. A master's is preferred.
- 7+ years of manufacturing supervisory experience.
- Experience in materials management, manufacturing engineering, warehousing, distribution, purchasing and planning.
- Experience managing change using lean manufacturing methods such as Kanban, 5S, visual controls and standardization, and value stream mapping processes.
